    Blog #4 IXL Math

This Blog entry is about a tool of my own interest called IXL. IXL is a math cite that allows students from Pre-k to Highschool courses practice answers questions pertaining to curtain lessons included in there curriculum. This cite however is not free and does require the teacher to pay a membership fee in order to grant there students access.

Ease of Use 9-10.

When IXL has been used in my previous classes it has been fairly simple to use. Often times we would join the teachers class in IXL in class together so we knew how to access it on our own, and from there they would assign the different lesson numbers as homework. The only reason I do not rate IXL as a ten out of ten is because of how it grades assignments. Students are tasked with answering so many questions that they fill a meter at the top of the screen. If a question is answered wrong it deducts points from the meter. My fellow classmates and I always found this frustrating as it would take more then one question right to make up the points for missing one question, and I predict assigning IXL to my own students my have the same results. That being said I can't deny that my math comprehension was better in school when practicing with IXL and cites like it.

Versatility. 5-10.

I have seen IXL on computers, tablets, and phones, but that does not speak much to its versatility and more of its accessibility. IXL does not serve more of a function to me then just practicing math. It does however allow the teacher to track their students progress through the course but aside from that doesn't do much else.

Overall likelihood of using it in my own classroom. 10 -10.

Aside from the fee, which some schools will cover, I find IXL to be a very helpful tool in the classroom to manage homework. IXL almost has a game like feel with filling the meter with points for questions right and a mark of lessons being completed in the list.
